A wonderful piece of Americana and a beautiful still life done in an impressionist style in oil. Helen C. Sowden painted this beautiful artwork on wood board. Artist’s signature at lower right. The flowers are brightly colored and retain some serious pop. Honestly the artwork looks like it was painted yesterday. The date of creation is listed on the verso—November 1935–as is a quote from the artist which says: “Flowers work as a gift”. Sowden was a well known postcard artist. This artwork was a mock-up of what was later believed to feature in a postcard in the first half of the 20th century.
The artwork is housed in its original wood frame which suits the painting perfectly. And this is an older artwork, the frame may have minor scratches, abrasions and nics—all expected given age, but absolutely nothing that would take away from the work of art and overall presentation.
The painting is in terrific condition with nothing to note.
Size is approximately 11.5 x 14.5”.
